ATF: The Triumphant Return

Bloody Blue Hell it has been a long.. long time.  Its not that I gave up the tradition you see... I just stopped writing about it.  Regardless... its that time... and its that place.  So...  crack one open, light one up, and join the fun.

A: Amber Bock for now... later I'm going to get into the Kentucky Spirit.  JAC is handsome man of honor and integrity.  And I'm not just saying that because he bought me the bottle.

T:  Markers Mark infused cigar.  Hey.  Its not gay if its bourbon.  I smoked my first one from this batch (a gift from a future brother-in-law... yep.. WhiskeyGirl is just about off the market.) when we ran down to Destin to meet DJ and her new gentleman caller.  Honestly these are fantastic... but I still felt a little weird smoking a flavored cigar... even if it was Makers.

F:  So you saw the green laser on the MSAR in the Gun Porn post...  you know what normally sits there?  2Gen night vision.  For reelz yo.  I suppose I could put pictures up... but honestly this isn't my first Amber Bock... so ummm... no.  Y'all got any experience with this stuff?  Freakin' amazing.  If there is something more fun than night vision... I don't know what it is.  Maybe night vision with titties...

Well there it is boys...  enjoy.  Since this is the return I'll refresh the rules for ya... Your comments should start with this...

A: what you're drinking, what you wish you were drinking, or why you're not.
T: what you're smoking, chewing, or what you'd like to be
F: what you're carrying, fondling, and or lusting over.

Welcome back y'all.  Give'em hell.

A: Wish it was some Taliesin, but...

T: If I had to, Copenhagen, but...

F: Now that I have the basics covered, I'm looking to double up and stock up on spare parts. So next in line would be another SU-16 while the getting is good, but...

... I'm working tonight. Wah-wuh.

Have a good one, guys.

Well, I'll be damned. Look at this place. He's been derelict, but he's back.

(Makers Cigars) I smoked my first one from this batch when we ran down to Destin.. Honestly these are fantastic..

This Batch. Sure. But I happen to know it's not the first one you've ever had, bitch.

A: new Bud BlackCrown @6% and $7 for 6 from the gas station - I love the irony that the EvilOnes think I "don't get" their open Ritual.

T: I've actually "quit" chew/dip. I will take up cigars again though in the near future.

F: In this room? G27 w/nights staring at me (fuck off).
CVA .50cal ML stainless
Old Rem1100 inherited from now deceased F-I-Law
Parts of disassembled Browning 12GA A5Mag 3" - which leads to this question: you know anyone that's done the home DuraCoat shake-n-spray kit? I only need average results for the A5.

And best to JAC III

A: Matilda bay, minimum chips, trying it out not bad but not my cup of tea either.
T: waiting for my new box of cubans to clear customs, so nothing for now.
F: My 223 pulled of a 2nd outright last weekend, missed out on 1st by a point. Dammit.

Josh said...

Wtf is Matilda bay?

A: George Dickel No. 12. Tennessee Whisky at its finest. An absolute steal at $18 a bottle.

T: Nothing tonight.

F: Steyr M40-A1. Love the way it feels in my hand.

Nate said...

Well hell the gang's all here. Another Steyr man in the house. Freaking awesome. Raggededge... honestly have you felt a better DAO trigger than the Steyr? I mean its crazy.

And... yeah... the Kentucky Spirit is really... really good.

No, absolutely not. It's a fantastic weapon that is a pleasure to carry around and shoot.

Now, my other .40 is a Glock 23...Now I know what you're thinking, but I have a story behind that one. About 16 years ago, me and the mrs go and get hitched. Our first Christmas rolls around and proud as punch she presents me with a wonderful gift. Yeah, an effing Glock. Well, let me tell you boys (especially you, Josh), the right answer at that moment is not, "You got me a fucking Glock, what the hell is wrong with you?". She knows better now and hence my last Christmas gift was a Steyr...

thimscool said...

Good luck finding one, Josh. Given the current market, I may skip back to another 870... this time maybe a police or marine model.

I also need to get tooled up to reload for 12ga. Love the shotgun.

Allabaster said...

An Aussie beer, it is Australia day here, mid afternoon sunny and hot by the pool.

I win.

Nate said...

No.. God don't get an 870... you wouldn't believe how far Remington has fallen on fit and finish. I mean I know I used to joke about them being shit and all.. but that was just to egg the remington guys on. Now? Now its different. They really are shit. The chinese 150 dollar knock offs are actually better weapons.

Get a mossberg.

Nate said...

Mate..

It was sunny and 75 here today.. and I have palm trees in my back yard.

and a pool.

and 40 acres.

and my own 5 acre lake full of bass and bream in catfish.

Who wins again?

Allabaster said...

You can win when you present a mythical steyr aug 308.

A: A bud, cause I am waiting on the boy to get home with my truck and something better.
T: My favourite Stanwell full of Esotericca Tobacianna Tilbury
F: My Pt1911, and a J.C Higgins model 28 from 1951. Nice old one my ex-father in law gave me. God rest his soul.
One of those aweful semi's that hold allot of bullets.

Nate said...

you're correct mate. I guess I got it confused with the scout rifle. mythical indeed.

Nate said...

speaking of Augs Allabaster? do you have one?

or.. a clone of one?

no?

I DO.

Allabaster said...

Yeah yeah, enjoy your self loaders while you still have 'em. Ours are all buried in sealed PVC pipes until the time is right.

Corrected the earlier bud situation with some New Glarus Brewing Co., Spotted Cow.

Nate said...

Texan.... Thank God. I was embarrassed as hell that some one was suffering Budweiser...

Nate said...

Jeez.. man... where are all the chicks? This is to much of a pickle party.

Spacebunny was supposed to show up and talk about drinking guiness.

(yes... spacebunny drinks more respectibly than Vox does)

TransplantedTexan said...

Well, I had no vehicle.

bw said...

+1

Now, about that DuraCoat? Anyone?

TransplantedTexan said...

I was a bit embarrassed over the bud, but, Margaritas at Chile's?
Also, is there really a a choice to be made over knob creek, makers - or new Amsterdam gin...?

Nate said...

BW
I've never used the home duracoat kit. I am re blueing an old over-under shotty... that's about the only experience I have.

Sorry mate.

thimscool said...

I was thinking of getting a used police model... or maybe a Wilson combat.

I want parts compatibility.

Nate said...

Everyone loves WIlson Combat... its just that everyone can't afford one. You could get a base model springfield and commence to customizing it with Wilson Combat parts... would be considerably cheaper than a wilson combat 1911.

Some others may know better but I am pretty sure the taurus 1911 is compatible with all 1911 parts... except that its a series 80. The ruger is a series 70.

1. Glenlivet, neat or Wild Turkey high octane. That is, if I could. Discovered I inherited my families alcohol allergy.

2. I quit smoking decades ago, but I recall a Kaywoodie cavendish tobacco that was very good...

3. I already have everything I ever wanted in long and short arms.

A: A glass of shiraz, would love to try Makers Mark someday.

T: Don't smoke, but don't mind the smell of a good cigar.

F: Staunch gunowner's/Second Amendment supporter. Would it work if I just admit to a strong admiration to guys that build their own guns? I find the subject of weaponry absolutely facinating to read. There are and were some real craftsmen out there.

Nate said...

Susan... flattery will get you everywhere.

MacLaren said...

A: I'm outta everything... so I've got nothing.
T: A fat Roly torpedo. One of the best inexpensive handmade brands. A good daily smoke.
F: Still wishing I had a Ruger Mk III with the fluted barrel for plinking squirrels.

Nate said...

Hey I have one of those. No fluted barrel though. Does fine anyway.

bw said...

Yeah, have watched the vids on duracoat.
I'm gonna try it though. The somewhat abused, bird gun BrwngA5 just will not stop rusting. Not looking for show quality. For the money? We'll see. Not gonna make it any worse.

Nate said...

email me the results BW.... make a good post

Was thinking about painting my AR.

Okay - that's good to know. Though I like the fluted barrel look, if it's not a significant help to performance it broadens my search to other models as well.

Fluting is a reduction in performance. A fluted barrel will be less stiff than a nonfluted one.

A fluted barrel will be more stiff than a non-fluted barrel of the same weight. So it is an upgrade in that sense.

The whole thing is moot on a handgun. The platform isn't capable of the kind of accuracy that would make barrel stiffness matter. Unless you are talking about the kind Res shoots.

So it is all about how much the handgun weighs, and it may affect balance and recoil, which may be important to you.

I'm ot big on pistols. I'm not a klutz, but being good at pistol will take a lot of time that I do not currently have. Yes, I recognize that I need to ensure that my sons are not burdened like I am by my upbringing.

A: It is still a little early tonight, but in a short while it will be Rebecca Creek whiskey.

T: Mom raised me to be a lady, so no tobacco for me.

F: Recently acquired a Taurus PT140 Pro in .40 cal, a S&W SD40 VE also in .40 cal & a Strong Arm (Stevens) 12g pump action.

Looking for some advice on the Shotgun, Nate. I "tried" it in the store & it seemed to be a good fit. However after getting home & firing off a few rounds I found that the stock is a little long. I want to use it to shoot skeet primarily, so what is the best way to shorten the stock without running afoul of the fibbies?

I'll try to check back here, but if you want to ask some questions or see pics, my email is cunningdove at yahoo dot com.

Thank you.
